James Halliday AM – 2016 Cullen Award For Excellence

The Cullen Award For Excellence honours the legacy of Diana Madeline Cullen and Dr Kevin John Cullen.

In 2016 Cullen Wines commemorate their 45th year of producing wines in Wilyabrup, Margaret River, and proudly introduce the inaugural Cullen Award for Excellence. This award honours the contribution made to Western Australian wine by Dr Kevin John Cullen and Diana Madeline Cullen, who together founded Cullen Wines in 1971.

Kevin and Diana were unwavering in their belief in the potential Margaret River had to produce world class wine. As the WA Wine industry developed, they were generous with their time and knowledge and celebrated the success of others around them. An award in their names aimed at recognising others who have made exceptional efforts in furthering Western Australian Wines is a fitting tribute to these two tireless and inspiring pioneers.

In Association with Wines of Western Australia and the WA Wine Press Club, and supported by the Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association and the Margaret River Wine Association, The Cullen Award for Excellence exists to recognize and reward individuals, companies or institutions from anywhere in the world, who contribute in a positive way towards promoting the Western Australian Wine Industry under the individual banners of Quality, Integrity or Sustainability.

At a black tie dinner held at Cullen Winery on Saturday 16 July 2016, James Halliday AM was presented with this prestigious award. James Halliday is a name synonymous with Australian Wine throughout the world, as a winemaker, wine critic and wine writer. He is universally referred to as ‘Australia’s leading wine writer” and is an extremely well deserving recipient.

cullen-web“We are honoured that James Halliday accepted the inaugural Cullen Award For Excellence 2016 and will add it to his long list of his awards and accolades, specifically for this dedication and services to the Western Australian Wine Industry,” said Vanya Cullen – (Cullen managing director).

The Cullen Award For Excellence is to be an annual award. Next year’s winner will be chosen by a panel of WA Wine Industry representatives and Cullen Wines, and announced at a formal dinner.
