About the Wine Show of Western Australia
The Wine Show of Western Australia exclusively judges Western Australian wines. Originating in Mount Barker in 1978, the Wine Show of Western Australia marks its 39th year of celebrating and judging the best of Western Australian grown wines. The 2016 Gala Awards Dinner at the Hyatt Regency Perth signifies and celebrates the dedication, focus and commitment of the wine industry in Western Australia.
Beginning in 1978 as part of the Mount Barker and District Agricultural Show (incorporated), the Wine Show of Western Australia has grown to become a separate and distinguished event which annually determines the best of Western Australian wines. From only six classes in 1978, the show now includes 43 classes and 20 trophies, including the prestigious Trophy for Best Wine of Show.
2016 is an exciting year for the Wine Show
We welcome an esteemed line up of Judges, headed by Iain Riggs, esteemed Australian wine judge, educator and mentor. Iain is a very experienced wine judge, and is the immediate past Chair of Judges at the Sydney Royal Wine Show. Iain is supported by a strong panel of senior Judges; Pete Dillon (VIC), Samantha Connew (Tasmania) and Stuart Watson (WA). We would like to welcome award-winning wine writer, wine judge, author and broadcaster from the UK, Jane Parkinson who joins the team of judges this year. We would like to thank Singapore Airlines, who will be bringing Jane to WA.
The Wine Show uses the 100 point system of awarding Medals. This decision was taken in response to the Exhibitors desire to be able to promote their product effectively in a variety of markets.
We are pleased to continue our partnership with Liquor Barons which will see the Award Winning wines marketed to the public following the announcement of the winners. Print Hall will again be hosting the Top 50 wine tasting event, including featuring Top Wines from the Show on their wine list.
