History:

The Geographe Wine Show was first held in 2002 and over the last 12 years has become a prestigious annual opportunity for wine producers in the region to exhibit and have wines bench marked against industry standards. The Wine Show facilitates comparison of wines by leading industry professionals, and allows producers to focus on continuous improvements in wine quality and the opportunity to increase industry knowledge.

All wines are judged to national standards by recognised Australian wine professionals who have included in the past included, Tyson Stelzer, Dave Longden, Chris Pfeiffer, Gary Baldwin, John Hanley, John Griffiths and Ray Jordan.

The Wine Show has continually evolved, and in 2007 the Nicholas Baudin Trophy for Excellence in Wine making was introduced to acknowledge talented winemakers. Previous winners have included well known winemakers, Stuart Pierce (Jimmy Watson Trophy winner, 2010, Harvey River Bridge Estate), Simon Burnell (Willow Bridge Estate), Mark Messenger (Juniper Estate) and Peter Stanlake (Pith Winemaking).

Award winning wines from the Geographe Wine Show have gone on to achieve recognition at National and International levels such as, Best Western Australian Red Wine in 2009, numerous awards at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London, and inclusion in James Halliday’s Top Value Wines under $20.00.

The Geographe Wine Show continues to grow in stature with the inclusion in 2011 of judging classes for wines made from WA grown Alternative Varieties. These alternative variety classes are also open to any WA producers outside the Geographe Wine Region.

In 2013, the Geographe Wine Show was accepted as a qualifying wine show for the National Wine Show. This acknowledgment reinforces the professionalism and credibility of the Geographe Wine Show within the wine industry.
